Eomer's Mount's Essential Anime List

If you could only watch 10, 20, or 100 animes, which ones should they be? I have no idea but Eomer's Mount (honorary PSC Member and Otaku Master) does. Here are her recommendations for some MUST SEE licensed animes.

  • AH! Megami-sama/ OH! My Goddess
Typical cluless guy that has hot powerful babes mess with his life. Only they are goddesses! Comedy
  • All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl NuKu NuKu
Cute, non-bright, android cat girl and her adventures with the real world. Comedy.
  • Angel Cop
Sci-Fi but not the freaky kind of scifi. Future female cop fights terrorist; situation evolves into more (duh!)
  • Angel Sanctuary
The war between the angels, demons and God moves to the earth as the leader of the rebellion is reborn as a high school boy in love with his sister. Gorgeous artwork and great seiyuu cast.
  • Anything by Hayao Miyazaki
It's assured to be beautifully animated, imaginative and captivating. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa Valley of the Wind, and the Castle of Castagilio are just a few.
  • Apple Seed
A band of terrorist plot to destroy Gaia, a super-computer that controls Olympus, the carefully controlled and monitored "utopia" city created after the devastation of World War III and run by artificially created half-human/half-robot bio-droids, to restore freedom to humankind.
  • Armitage III
Bladerunner anime style. On Mars, a killer is murdering "Thirds," androids that can pass for human. A detective from Earth and the unconventional cop Naomi Armitage are put on the case. Things get complicated when several high profile individuals, and Armitage herself, are revealed to be Thirds.
  • Ayashi no Ceres/Ceres Celestial Legend
After Aya's sixteenth birthday party turns into her attempted execution, she is caught in a complicated plot of reincarnation, power and betrayal where the man she is drawn to could be her savior or her assassin. By the creator of Fushigi Yugi.
  • Bakaretsu Hunters/Sorcerer Hunters
Demon hunting team made up of a horny guy, a horny bisexual guy, the brother of the horny guy that the bisexual guy likes, and two slutty sisters. Oh, and it goes with out saying that the fate of the world rests on their shoulders.
  • Bastard!! (How could you not want to see an anime called "Bastard!!"?)
Dark Schneider is an evil warlock who decided to take over the world, just because. Years later he is asked to save the land he once tried to conquer. He agrees, not because of a change of heart, but because he's bored, refuses to be shown-up by his former generals, and is hot for the cleric's daughter. And yes, he is a total bastard. The only problem is that the series is too short!!
  • Battle Angel
In the Scrap Iron City, people on Earth try to survive on the refuse thrown down from the floating paradise, Zalem. A mysterious young cyborg with amnesia becomes a Hunter-Warrior and attempts to remember who she is as she protects the ones she loves.
  • Beserk

  • Black Magic M-66
The exciting futuristic adventure of Sybel, a freelance video journalist who becomes involved in a dangerous military fiasco when two top-secret military android assassins, know as M-66 units, are lost and she must save the daughter of the androids' creator.
  • Blue Gender
Youji awakes from suspended animation to a nightmarish world where man-eating giant bugs called "Blue" have overrun the earth. Mankind's last hope is a team of mecha pilots that battle the creatures - they save Youji's life and he joins their struggle.
  • Blue Seed
To combat the demons known as Aragami, the government created the Terrestrial Administration Center; but when the Kushinada, the only one who can destroy the Aragami, disappears, it's up to her sister Momiji to take the role. What she doesn't know is that the role of Kushinada is to be a sacrifice.
  • Bubblegum Crisis
Genom, with its powerful androids, Boomers, has become the world's most powerful corporation. The Knight Sabers, a team of four women with remarkable combat and technical skills, not to mention advanced armored hardsuits, are all that stand between Genom and its evil goals.
  • Cowboy Bebop
The year is 2071 and Jet, Spike, Faye and Ed are Cowboys, interstellar bounty hunters always on the look out for the next bounty and each running from a dark past. A near perfect series with great characters, fascinating story-lines, and some of the best music ever.

  • Cutey-Honey
Cutey Honey is a one-woman S.W.A.T. team whose android chassis is capable of changing at will into a dazzling array of hard-hitting hardbodies, each with its own unique set of skills, weapons and other impressive physical attributes. She's out to make Cosplay City a safe place to live.
  • Dangaio-OAV
Brought together by the mysterious Doctor Tarsan, these four psychic warriors are able to unite to form DANGAIOH, the most powerful weapon in the universe. Using their full psionic power, they alone can stop the bloody tyranny of Captain Garimoth.
  • Evangelion
Starts off as a regular mecha anime about a secret organization, Nerv, and its cadre of young pilots who are the only thing that can save the Earth from the Angels. Then the producer has a metal break down and it flies off the deep end. Everyone is still trying to figure out what the "end" of the series actually meant.
  • Excel Saga
You will die laughing. In the pursuit of world domination for the Lord Ilpalazzo, Excel and Hyatt engage in pointless activities that have no bearing on anything except the hysterical mocking, spoofing, and satirization of every anime convention there is. No joke is too weird and nothing is sacred.
  • Fake
Dee Latener and Randy (Ryo) McLane, are New York City cops on vacation in England. When hotel guests wind up missing and/or dead, these two are on the case. And while they chase the bad guys, Dee can't stop chasing Ryo as well.
  • Fatal Fury
Fighting, blood & guts, the woman voted sluttiest anime character ever, and a bunch of overly testosteroned males battling over nothing really.
  • Fire Tripper
From Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma 1/2), during a bandit raid in ancient Japan, a little girl avoids death by mysteriously disappearing and waking up in modern Japan. Now 17-years-old, she and her six-year-old neighbor suddenly find themselves back in ancient Japan.
  • Flame of Recca
Middle school student Hanabishi Recca's life becomes much more complicated when he meets a mysterious girl who can heal people and must learn to master the art of the eight fire dragons in time to counter an evil power.
  • Furi Kuri(FLCL)
His older brother's girlfriend flirts with him, a strange alien girl runs him over with her motor scooter and bashes him over the head with her guitar, and a robot is growing out of his head. In a town where nothing ever happens, twelve-year-old Nandaba Naota's life will never be the same.
  • Fushigi Yuugi/The Mysterious Play
Ancient China, an even "nicer" Usagi-like heroine, the four Gods of the heavens, and an eye-candy feast of bishounen. The series drags at points but the ultimate payoff is worth it. The first OVA is worth watching for the omake alone. Ignore the second OVA.
  • Galaxy Express 999 (The 1st One)
Science fiction animation at its best, based on the manga by Leiji Matsumoto (Star Blazers). A young boy learns more about the universe than he ever expected when he meets the enigmatic Maetel, the legendary Space Pirate Captain Harlock, and the icy Emerladas on a quest to avenge his mother's death.
  • Gasaraki
The powerful Gowa family is trying to call upon the power of Gasara by using one of their own sons; a mysterious girl interrupts him warning, "Don't call it again... The horror!" Meanwhile, Japanese Tactical Armors team up with US Tanks as they realize that another country may be calling "Gasaraki."
  • Gatekeepers
Mysterious beings called "invaders" are infiltrating Japan at an alarming rate. Earth Defense Organization AEGIS has a secret weapon to battle the invaders - a schoolgirl who can open a dimension to another world and draw devastating supernatural powers from it.
  • Golden Boy
Your typical story about the cross-country adventures of a horny teen.
  • Grave of the Fireflies
So good, so sad. Story follows a brother and sister as they try to survive in post-World War II Japan.
  • The Gundam Series
One of the longest running storylines in anime history, the Gundam story began in the 70's and continues today with Gundam Seed. The various series span centuries and dimensions but all basically explore the nature of war, lost innocence, the search for self and the attempt to find ones place in the world.
  • Gundam Wing & Endless Waltz
The anime that inspired a fandom (at least in America) bigger than the anime itself deserves mention separate from the Gundam Series. Giant mechas, pretty-boy pilots, child terrorists, psychologically disturbed characters, space battles, a convoluted plot, and a psuedo-intellectual exploration of the nature of war and peace, GW is definitely one to watch if not own.
  • Wings of Honneamise
Shirotsugh Lhadatt dreams of becoming a pilot but must instead join the Royal Space Force, a career dead end. After an encounter with a girl, Shiro is inspired to volunteer to be the first astronaut. The movie details the growth of Shiro's character, as well as the trials - both political and technical - which culminate in the launch of the first manned rocket.
  • Kimagure Orange Road
High school student Kasuga Kyosuke has problems with women. He thinks he's in love with one girl, is being pursued by his unrequited love's best friend, finds that his two sex-crazed buddies are after his bratty younger sisters, and is being stalked by the toughest guys in the Karate Club. Adding to his problems - he and his sisters have paranormal powers!
  • Kare Kano/His and Her Circumstances
Yukino Miyazawa plays the part of perfect model student to garner the attention and admiration she craves. Enter Souichirou Arima, who seems to be even more perfect, thus earning Yukino's hatred. That is, until he confesses his love... then blackmails her with a secret he discovered.
  • Love Hina
Tenchi with out the explosions and mad scientists. Years after parting with his childhood sweetheart, Keitaro, now an underachieving artist, becomes residential manager at an all-girls dorm. The residents include the despairing Shinobu, the genius inventor Su Kaolo, the sneaky Kitsune and two girls who may be that long-lost sweetheart.
  • Macross/Robotech
Sci-fi, mecha, romance-who doesn't remember this one, right? In addition to the original series, other good choices are: Macross Movie Do You Remember Love, Macross The Movie II, Macross Plus OAV4, Macross Plus Movie, and Macross 7 Dynamite OAV4.
  • Magic Knight Rayearth
Three junior high school girls hear a voice asking them to save a world called Cephiro, where the peace is threatened as the Princess is imprisoned and monsters begin to invade the land. With her last bit of strength, the princess summons forth the three girls destined to become Magic Knights in the hopes of saving her world.
  • Magical Stage Fancy Lala
Now stop laughing at the name. A pair of diminutive dinosaurs give a young girl a magical pen and pad that allow her to transform into an older version of herself. She dubs her adult form "Lala" and pursues a career as a top fashion model and idol star while attempting to keep her alter ego hidden from her friends and family.
  • Mermaids Scar OAV
By Rumiko Takahashi. Partake of the mermaid's flesh, the legend says, and you will live forever. But what happens when you don't want to be immortal anymore? But what dark secret does this boy really have?

  • My Dear Marie OAV3
Ever met the perfect girl? Did she have the perfect boyfriend? Feel like you can't compete? Why not build your own? When an amateur mad scientist attempts to build a robotic duplicate of his dream girl, Marie is the result. But he built her so well that Marie has a mind of her own and a whole host of questions to go with it.
