Manuscripts and Illumination

Medieval style illumination has been a hobby of mine for years. In the Society for Creative Anachronism I have created many award scrolls to be given as gifts to people for their service to the Society. I still need to learn much more about different styles of calligraphy, and practice it more as well, but the painting is the part I love the best.

SCA award scrolls:

An illumination I did for fun during a debate about homemade vs canned soup for lunch at Day Events. Soup Wars

I did this one for church, experimenting on a purple-red paper to mimic medieval dyed vellum books. The Red Scroll

Manuscript pages:
I thought it would be really fun to take some of my favorite parts of books I've read and turn them into art. Eventually, I will create several fully illuminated manuscripts (that I'll bind into books myself) of my favorite literature. So far, I have a few single pages to leaf through. I've done the calligraphy, but not the inking or illumination quite yet.
